SPEAKER-SPECIFIC PRESS RELEASES

|   AP STYLE

Common uses of Associated Press Style in press releases regarding Nat Geo Live events:

  • Use quotation marks around the titles of books and television shows.

  • Do not use quotation marks around the names of magazines or newspapers.

  • Never underline or italicize books, television shows, magazines or newspapers.

  • For dates and years, use numbers. Spell out months unless used with a date. When used with a date, abbreviate the spelling of months longer than three letters.

  • Commas are not necessary if only a year and month are written, but commas should be used to separate a year if the date, month and year are written.

  • Use numbers for any distances greater than 10. For any distances less than 10, spell out the distance.

  • When referring to time of day always use numbers, except to write out noon. Examples: 9:30 a.m., 5 p.m.

For more information about using AP Style, please consult the most recent edition of the Associated Press Stylebook or visit the Associate Press Stylebook website.
